Frequently Asked Questions

Which consumables does a MIG welder need regularly?

Contact tips, gas nozzles, and drive rolls are the wear items; tips clog and nozzles collect spatter. Keep spare 0.030 in and 0.035 in tips plus at least one spare nozzle on hand for every 10 lb wire roll you burn.

Do Simder MIG consumables fit other brands?

Simder MIG torches use the common 15AK (Euro) and MB15/MB24KD consumable families, so tips and nozzles interchange with most entry and mid-range welders. Check your torch model on the product page.

How often should I replace a MIG contact tip?

Swap tips when the hole wears oval or the wire starts feeding erratically - typically every few hours of spraying-and-arcing for hobby use. A worn tip causes burnback and stuttering arcs.

What gas do I need for MIG welding steel?

75% argon / 25% CO2 (C25) is the standard mix for mild steel. 100% CO2 works on a budget with more spatter. Flux core needs no gas at all.
